Large camping tents are usually anchored using guy ropes tied to stakes or tent pegs. Large tents are not freestanding. Large camping tents come in different shapes and sizes for 4 to 9 people. Consider buying a tent rated for more people than you'll have in your group, to give you plenty of room for stowing your camping gear. Two person tents are usually comfortable for just one person; a three person tent is comfortable for two people, etc - it just makes the confined space more pleasant.
